The  concept behind our live edge pieces is to provide a visual link back to the living shape of    the wood and to create interesting unique lines and features. Our placement of resin, color tinted or clear makes it possible to not only retain the appearance of the live edge, but also enhance the natural beauty of the wood.  

One of the  most important things we consider when choosing our wood slabs is to make sure that  they are properly dried and have their own unique features.  In our shop we tend to pick out slabs with knot holes and voids as this leads to more interesting options. For this reason I always take my time and make very careful selections. Once we get back to the shop we begin the fun of prepping the slab for our customers. 

The pieces we select tend to tell their own story and easily inspire our design team.  Taking allot of guidance from our clients and what they specifically require and then adding our artistic flare we begin the process of creating our beautiful pieces of art.

Pouring the resin is a crucial and detailed step. We carefully measure the resin mixture and add the tint or color pigment. With our wood clamped into place we can pour the resin river and watch the magic.  This is always my favorite part of the project. Resin can be tinted into any color you can imagine and when chosen carefully can accentuate the natural beauty of the wood itself.  Next we remove any bubbles and then let the resin cure for 72 hours. 

After the curing stage comes sanding, routing, more sanding, and still more sanding. If this is a waterfall piece we cut the table edge and reattach it seamlessly for the "waterfall" effect. Lastly, we apply finishing coats.  Osmo finishing wax is one of our preferred durable finishes and for our hotel customers there are several spay coatings we use in various sheens.

At the end of the day we are left with a unique piece of functional art that we are proud to display in homes, cottage, offices and hotels.  

Wood is a natural product that responds to temperature and humidity variations by expanding and contracting. Sometimes these changes may be noticeable in the physical appearance of the product. Although every care is taken to ensure our products are able to handle temperature and humidity changes, the conditions of your home can affect the wooden products you buy from us. Your items can experience small movements and crack as it adjusts- it’s not a fault, but a natural occurrence withing the fibers of a natural product.
